On Hearing Horses
Wildly Whinnying
A Story by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh

© 2007 Tomás Ó Cárthaigh

Horses whinnying loudly, as if in the old west
I hear them, and think of cowboys, wagons and the rest
Indians and outlaws, shootouts and showdowns
Barroom brawls and fighting in the streets of the towns
But that’s not what causes the neighing from the direction of the bogs,
Rather a few horses being worried by a pack of barking dogs.
